History of Sandown Train Station...


The Sandown train station opened in the year 1864 on August 23rd. It has 2 platforms that you go through a subway to get to the other side (now that is) and years ago it was just a step bridge. From the 19th century to the 20th century it was known as a junction station. In 2022-2023 it had a motherlode of, 83,500 passengers in one year!


Information...


The train went from Sandown to Horringford, Merstone, Newport and Cowes then went back to the beloved Sandown Train Station. The first trains on the Isle Of Wight (IOW for short) Came from the Fishbourne ferry called the "Wightlink" on a thursday. The train used to go to Ventnor but the Ventnor Train Station closed in "1966" due to all traffic and electricity, and stopped permanently due to the Electricity issues...
